The Role:

You’ll be responsible for administrating existing infrastructure and recommending new services for performance and cost efficiency. Our systems use a combination of Redshift for data warehousing, Cloud Search for text searches, and a combination of MySQL/PostgreSQL front end servers to feed both services. We’re a Unix house, so expect to find LAMP regularly with a splash of Node.JS and nginx. Most of our web hosting is handled in house where you’ll have sudo access, but you’ll also work with some web hosting vendors for start up sites. Expect to make jumps and transitions from PHP 5.3 to 5.6 - MySQL to PostgreSQL - PostgreSQL to JSON documents for CloudSearch.

• Experience deploying and supporting an application on cloud-based infrastructure

We have interesting problems to solve, both on the server and on the user-interface level. We deal with the issues of describing complex real world systems at the right level of abstraction. We work with the leaders in the fields of genomic life-sciences, helping them structure and manage their increasingly valuable knowledgebases. This data changes frequently, so we have built a system that can flexibly work from any description of a data-model to produce a clear and powerful data-mining interface. We need you to help develop and improve this sector leading product.

This role will involve creating new features for the InterMine data warehouse platform as part of an exciting project. The successful applicant will be part of a UK consortium (http://www.synbiuk.org/) that is developing new methods for the emerging field of Synthetic Biology, and will be responsible for maintaining the current synthetic biology InterMine, adding new data, tools and features as required.

• 3+ years of Technical Program Management experience in a related industry.
• Experience managing efforts in Unix/Linux environments, distributed systems and/or developing large scale web applications.
• Proven experience working with senior leadership and experience influencing and delivering on a product roadmap.

• 5+ years of Technical Program Management experience
• Exceptional written and verbal communication
• Thorough understanding of software development lifecycle from conception to delivery
• Experience working with cloud-based technologies (AWS preferred)
• A proven track record for being detail-oriented with a demonstrated ability to self-motivate and follow-through on projects.
• Proven ability to bring clarity to ambiguous situations.
